Simon -As a newbie to Substack (using the US editions of Mantel) , I’m very excited to be part of this rich adventure. But overwhelmed with substack & where I should look first for your postings. How to organize ...Guidance, please?
I know it’s late July already, but a few days ago I started reading Wolf Hall. I’m 15% in and love it already! Maybe I’ll catch up to you all in a couple months.
In re *Bring Up the Bodies*, I have the 1st edition hbk, and p35 is a random point in chap 2. Do I take it that this week’s reading budget on #WolfCrawl is just chap 1?
That's right. As I say at the top of the page, the page umbers only apply to the 4th Edition paperbacks. Otherwise, just pay attention to the chapter names and the "section starting" or "section ending" information.
@Simon, a question, by the end of our reading schedules for both books, will your commentaries, posts, and summaries be still be available thereafter for paid subscribers moving forward? I am delving into your posts taking my time to learn and so on. Yet, at the same time, I do not want to fall behind with these schedules as well. . Thank you, Simon.
Hi, thank you so much for all the work you're putting into this. Just thought you'd want to know that the ordering of this page has got a bit confusing as you skipped the link for week 5's post.
Katherine Chen. Came out in 2022 or so. Yeah, I think too much influence from Mantel. But again, I didn't get very far. Durrell's Pope Joan is in my stack.

Hey Kathy! Bookmark this page https://footnotesandtangents.substack.com/p/cromwell-trilogy it links to all the Cromwell related content. Hope that helps! Enjoy!
Are we just reading the first two books?
No, I just haven't decided on how to break up the third book yet! Plenty of time to get that sorted.
Thanks for the section endings- my fancy folio edition has different page numbers 😂
Serves you right for your fancy folios! I did wonder whether different editions had different page numbers...
Ha, indeed. But I'm a sucker for some gilt edges...

Wonderful Suzanne! But don't rush, savour it and enjoy the journey!

I'm new to this. I'm really enjoying it. The summary provided and the comments posted are most helpful. Thank you.

Hey Shanti! Yes, everything will stay up for paid subscribers for both books. So take your time!
Wonderful!

Thanks for spotting that Nikki!
Are the page numbers specific to the paperback version or do they also work for the hardcover versions from Fourth Estate?
I suspect so but can't guarantee as I only have The Mirror in hardback. It is safer just to use that as a guide and note the chapters.
I've managed to source all three via charity shop trawls and hauls, so am ready to go
Superb.
Back in the UK now. Going to get my hands on it this time for sure! So excited for this.
Has anyone read Joan: A Novel of Joan of Arc? The opening was so similar to the start of Wolf Hall that I just couldn't read it.
No, who is the author? When was it written? Too much influence from having read Mantel?

That's the problem with Mantel. You just want to write like her, but no one can!
