Anne Boleyn’s aunt and Mary Shelton’s mother.
The story so far…
Week 15: Supremacy
At Hatfield, she tells Cromwell that Anne Boleyn has told her to beat Mary, “like the bastard she is.” Shelton has little love for the Boleyn clan: “She talks about her brother Thomas Boleyn, the most selfish man I ever knew, it is no wonder Anne is so grasping, all she has ever heard from him is talk of money, and how to gain a mean advantage over people, he would have sold those girls naked at a Barbary slave market if he had thought he would get a good price.”
Week 28: Master of Phantoms (Part 4/5)
Anne Shelton is one of two Boleyn aunts who wait on Anne in the Tower. Anne complains about her; she is not of her choosing. They laugh at Anne and chastise her. Cromwell notes that ‘in this court, Anne has already been tried.’
Week 33: Salvage (Part 3/3)
Cromwell sees Lady Shelton at Hunsdon, where she looks after Lady Mary. Shelton complains about the damage Norfolk did when he last visited. She tells him the story of Rafe bringing his letter. ‘He likes to be told a story by Lady Shelton. He feels it will be one he can keep a grip on.’
When Mary breaks down in the presence of Cromwell, Shelton rushes in and tells her to put her cap back on.
