Week 47: Ascension Day (Part 2/2)

Cromwell meets the new French ambassador at the Water Triumph in June, where men dressed as Italian cardinals are thrown into the Thames by true-born English sailors. Marillac used to favour Luther, and Cromwell wonders whether this is why France has sent him to deal with England. Marillac tells him about the sad fall from grace of Dintevile, his predecessor.

Week 48: Twelfth Night

Marillac and the Imperial ambassador dine together and boast: ‘All Europe rejoices in the continued amity between our masters.’
