Week 41: The Image of the King (Part 1/2)

‘Big fish,’ Cromwell calls him. ‘A Spanish gentleman has come from the Emperor, to assist Ambassador Chapuys in wooing the Lady Mary.’

Mendoza brings letters and presents for Mary. A parrot and a secret message, that Cromwell gets hold of. He gives the envoy ten minutes with Mary and no more.

Week 44: Corpus Christi (Part 1/2)

Mendoza and Chapuys continue negotiations into the summer of 1538. When he goes, the king gives him a banquet and Chapuys grumbles about how much the Emperor has rewarded the envoy and not himself.
