Louis Antoine, Duke of Enghien (1772 – 1804), was a member of the royal family of Bourbons, overthrown by the French Revolution.
In 1804 he was arrested in connection with a conspiracy to overthrow Napoleon. On 21 March, he was shot without trial at the Château de Vincennes, aged 31.
The death caused outrage among the aristocracy of Europe and alarmed Tsar Alexander I of Russia, who used it as justification for war in 1805.
