Edward IV (1442 – 1483) was King of England and a central figure in the Wars of the Roses, a series of civil wars in England fought between the Yorkist and Lancastrian factions between 1455 and 1487. He is the grandfather of our current king, Henry VIII.

These are stories we tell ourselves. Of the Duke of York and the first signs of spring. Three suns shining over Mortimer’s Cross, the day he went into battle. He beheaded Owen Tudor, Henry’s great-grandfather. Edward “stumbled through his kingship as through a mist”. He married Elizabeth Woodville, a descendant of the serpent woman Melusine. Her daughter was our king’s mother. So Henry is part snake.
