Georges-Jacques Danton is a lawyer from Arcis-sur-Aube, whose leadership and thundering oratory in the revolutionary Cordeliers Club becomes legendary. He is the crucial organiser of the 1792 insurrection and becomes Minister of Justice and later the first President of the Committee of Public Safety during the Terror. He becomes close friends with Camille Desmoulins while both are young lawyers in Paris and marries Gabrielle Charpentier.
