Week 12: Anna Regina (Part 1)
In 1533, the new ambassador is getting his portrait painted by Hans Holbein. It will be one of the most famous paintings of the decade. Meanwhile, he is spending time with the King of England. France is angry that Henry is “flaunting his supposed wife and her big belly.” It will upset the French alliance with the pope.
Week 13: Anna Regina (Part 2)
Jean de Dinteville and Cromwell compare notes on their Holbein paintings. Up in the gallery, he is “furred against the June chill.”
Week 29: The Book of Phantoms (Part 5/5) / Spoils
The French ambassador is back in England: just in time to see a queen die. Too late to stop Francis Weston’s death. He petitions Cromwell at the Tower and informs him of the arrival of the Calais executioner. On behalf of his master, the ambassador offers Cromwell and tries to lure him away from the emperor.
Week 35: Wreckage (II) (Part 2/2)
Cromwell finds him at the house of the French ambassador, huddled next to the fire. These English summers! He offers Cromwell money and says his king wants Calais. ‘Give it on your terms, or one day soon we will take it on ours.’
