Week 35: Wreckage (II) (Part 2/2)
In July, Tom Truth is attainted. The king remains undecided on the fate of his niece. With Richmond dead, Cromwell visits Meg in the tower. He shows her some of her recent verses: ‘You have chosen an evil hour to fall in love.’ He tells her she must accept the conceit that she was beguiled and misled.
Week 43: Nonsuch
After the deaths of Jane Seymour and Tom Truth, Meg Douglas is allowed back to court.
If through the first week of November her face is swollen and blurred by tears, we need not take it that she was still attached to the late Lord Thomas; we can interpret it as sorrow for our gentle mistress.
