Now married to Henry Fitzroy, Earl of Richmond, she waits on Jane Seymour at court:
She is a very little wife, not seventeen; the clumsy gable gives her a scalped, wary look, and her eyes are travelling around. She sees him; nudges Meg; drops her eyes, breathes, ‘Cromwell.’
Week 34: Wreckage (II) (Part 1/2)
Mary Fitzroy tries to protect her friend Meg Douglas when Cromwell and Call-Me ask her about her marriage to Tom Truth. ‘Lady Margaret, you have a good counsellor in your friend,’ says Cromwell.
Fitzroy is unhappy. She says her husband, ‘doesn’t need me. He doesn’t even like me. He doesn’t count me as his wife.’
