Prince Dolgorukov has just come out of the council of war victorious, pushing for an early engagement. The voices of caution and delay have been silenced. “This combination of Austrian precision with Russian valour-what more could be wished for?” He would like to help Boris, but their conversation is prematurely cut short.
26 Feb: Chapter 11
Dologrukov represents the Allies in an interview with Napoleon. He returns convinced that Napoleon is afraid of a battle.
28 Feb: Chapter 13
Dolgorukov remains convinced that the French are retreating. The fires and noises in the dark are a trick. But Bagration is unconvinced.
