Marat’s common-law wife

Simone Evrard is the common-law wife of Jean-Paul Marat. Simone was born in Burgundy and moved to Paris to find work with her two sisters. She is introduced to Marat through her sister Catherine’s husband, who is a typographer for Marat’s newspaper, The People’s Friend (L'Ami du peuple), and the two fall in love when Marat shelters from the police in her house. Simone lives with Marat and Marat’s sister Albertine, both caring for him as his skin condition worsens.
