In 1529, Gascoigne is with Cromwell at York Place, when their master Wolsey is being dismissed and turned out. Cromwell dislikes the treasurer, who says many things to rattle Wolsey’s nerves. “If you like the king so much, go and work for him. Or do you already?” Cromwell asks.
