Anne Théroigne is a Belgian singer and revolutionary activist who speaks at the podium of the National Assembly, the Cordeliers Club and the Jacobin Club. Her presence in the crowds of the revolution draws notice: she often wears a man’s riding habit and carries a pistol and sabre. She is relentlessly slandered by the royalist press, particularly by Louis Suleau, who she hates in turn. Anne is heavily involved in the insurrection of 10 August. When home in Belgium she is captured and interrogated by the Austrian Government. Eventually she aligns herself with Brissot and the Girondists.
