Antoine Barnave
A deputy: at first a radical, later a royalist
Antoine Barnave, a lawyer, is the radical deputy for his native province of Dauphiné and a member of the Jacobin Club. Barnave regularly stands in public opposition to Mirabeau. Later he supports a constitutional monarchy. Barnave is one of three appointed to bring back the royal family after the Flight to Varennes, after which he began a secret correspondence with Queen Marie Antoinette.
