Arthur Plantagenet, 1st Viscount Lisle, is an illegitimate son of Edward IV, half-brother-in-law of Henry VII, and an uncle of Henry VIII.
The story so far…
Week 13: Anna Regina (Part 2)
The bastard son of Edward IV presides over the coronation banquet. From here, he will head to Calais to replace Lord Berners as Governor. “Lisle has a long bony Plantagenet face, and he is tall like his father, King Edward, who no doubt had many bastards, but none so distinguished as this elderly man, bending his creaky knee in obeisance before Boleyn’s daughter.”
Week 44: Corpus Christi (Part 1/2)
Henry and Cromwell see Lord Lisle at Dover in 1538. Cromwell promises Lady Lisle land at Painswick. Lisle says, ‘Majesty, is there no stopping these new men?’ Of Richard Riche he says: ‘There never was such a dip-pocket as he! He wants a shilling to say good morning to you!’
Henry tells him that he relies on these new men.
