Étienne Clavière is a Genevan in exile after his involvement in the Geneva Revolution of 1782. As one of the Comte de Mirabeau’s ‘slaves’, he writes Mirabeau’s speeches and advises him on the course to power. He is a member of the Jacobin club and twice becomes Minister for Finance.
