Étienne Dumont is a Genevan whose Calvinist sermons criticising the powers that be in Switzerland have driven him to exile. As one of the Comte de Mirabeau’s ‘slaves’, he writes Mirabeau’s speeches and advises him on the course to power. Dumont later published an account of his time with Mirabeau.
