She visits the Rostovs with her mother where they talk about the dying Count Bezukhov and his wayward son, Pierre. Her mother mentions that she declines to introduce him to her daughters.

The young Julie is clearly not very keen to be there and is set apart when all the other younger family members rush in.
9 Jan: Chapter 9
She seems to brighten up with Nikolai in the room and is a little flirtatious with the boy off to war.
15 Jan: Chapter 15
At Natasha’s name day, Julie sits with Nikolai, making Sonya jealous.
22 Jan: Chapter 22
After visiting the Rostovs, Julie Karagina writes to her friend Marya Bolkonskaya at Bald Hills. She writes affectionately of Marya, who believes she is being flattered. And she tells Marya of her “sweet friendship” with Nikolai, or Pierre’s inheritance, and the plans afoot to wed Marya to the “handsome scapegrace”, Anatole Kuragin.

16 May: Chapter 8
After the death of her brother, Julie Karagina has become a rich heiress. The Countess Rostova makes overtures to marry her son Nikolai to Julie. Nikolai argues with his mother and thinks Julie is “doll-like,” someone whom he could never love and who will not make him happy.
I get confused between Kuragin and Karagina; obvious now that I write it that these are two different names
