Jean-Baptiste Réveillon is a successful Parisian wallpaper manufacturer who owns a factory. He stands for the Estates-General and at an election meeting advocates for lowering the price of bread in order that wages may also be lower and thus manufactured goods cheaper. The suggestion of lower wages leads to the Réveillon riots.

I read that the people thought he was talking about lowering the workers’ wages, not bread prices ( he was kind to the poor) and hence the riot.
