Lectures & Seminars Conference: Overflow of Meaning: Reading and Re-reading Hilary Mantel at The Huntington Library (2021) Session 1: Interdisciplinary Approaches Session 2: Writing the Marginal Session 3: Making History Session 4: Mantel and Non-fiction
only just came across these resources! Amazing! I'm actually visiting LA later in the year and Huntington is on my 'to visit' list (I'm having a little Octavia E. Butler nerd-out in Pasadena as well:)), I wonder if I can get to see some of the mantel's literary archive - something's telling me it's not open to public?
If I may make a small but important correction: These lectures took place at the Huntington Library. Much as it might try, the library in the small town of Huntingdon in England is no match for the splendid Huntington Library, in San Marino, California.
Thanks, Simon. I hope to get to all of these, but slowly, in the spirit of the enterprise. Have already been resisting my normal inclination to dive deep into other books on Tudor history, Wikipedia, and similar tangents -- want instead to use this opportunity to marvel at how Mantel can tell a whole backstory in just a few well-constructed sentences.
Another potential candidate for the "Long reads" category is this Paris Review interview: https://www.theparisreview.org/interviews/6360/the-art-of-fiction-no-226-hilary-mantel (Sometimes you might hit a paywall.)
Good shout. I'll add that one. Thanks Alison!

Julia - The Huntington is wonderful! Allow yourself lots of time to explore the grounds, the library, and don't miss Blue Boy in the gallery.
thank you for the tip! I'm aiming to spend all afternoon there 12-17pm to make the best of it:) and of course have afternoon tea at the Rose garden:)
P.S. Simon - I think Session 4 link is a Session 3 link duplication
Let mee know if they are at all accessible! And thanks for the heads up about the link. I'll correct that.
Hi Simon, here are two interesting articles that might be nice for the resources page:

Thanks Iris!
Thank you Simon, a joy to listen to Hilary Mantel talking (about anything really) about her writing. Will look forward to indulging in these.

Ooooo good catch! Thanks Yasmin!
A super resource, Simon. I look forward to diving in.

It's just a start in sure! A few things I found late one night! 😅
