General Charles-François Dumouriez belongs to an aristocratic family. He enjoyed a long military career before joining the Paris Jacobin Club at the outset of the Revolution. He is Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Girondin cabinet before his return to the army as commander in the north, defeating the invading Prussian army at the battle of Valmy alongside Lieutenant General Arthur Dillon and successfully taking Belgium from the Austrians. Dumouriez is loosely allied to Jean-Pierre Brissot and friendly with Georges-Jacques Danton.
