No wonder the waltz was seen as thrilling. The Polonaise looks deathly dull by comparison!

The beautiful dance even thawed my icy old heart a bit. Never could dance a step well but I could while watching this video. Thanks @Simon Haisell for sharing it.

Wow, when I saw the town hall of the city where I live in the video about the polonaise, I was surprised. Usually nobody knows about Wroclaw. It's as if my whole life is being pieced together in this group: perhaps this is the magic of War and Peace - yes, the book has everything, and everything else is in the notes!

Thank you, Simon, for the insightful articleI particularly enjoyed your introductory prose and the section on the Song of Songs. It has inspired me to start a separate journal for my reading and thoughts!

I loved this week of reading! Perhaps against my better judgement (?), I’m all in & giddy for Natasha and Andrei, can’t wait to see what happens 🥰😜

I really loved reading Pierre's journal entries. Tolstoy's writing always gives insights into his characters, but Pierre always maintained a degree of ambiguity. It's almost as if only Pierre himself can truly describe what goes on in his head.

I'm super intrigued to see what happens with Natasha's story.

And to answer one of your questions, I am always early to everything. Sometimes I have to remind myself that being fashionably late is sometimes preferable at parties.

I used to be bang on time, but with two children that is now beyond impossible!

I have to intentionally *plan* to be late to a party, in order to not be the first to arrive. Early or precisely on time is my MO.

Gorgeous post. Thank you, Simon. The BBC video is beautiful, but I especially enjoyed the Song of Songs link. “The human longing to know and be known” echoes throughout W&P. (And The Kinks song — brilliant add!) Thanks also for your thoughtful questions. For the record: on time or early, regularly lead with my heart. ❤️

I’m so excited about Andrei and Natasha I can hardly sleep wondering what will happen! But I’m also worried that something terrible might happen to keep this from developing 😬

I can’t wait to find out what happens with Natasha & Andrei! Thanks for great links & extra context as always. The BBC waltz is beautiful, I could feel the nerves while Natasha was waiting.

I’m now always on time but as a 16 year old girl I was very scatterbrained and late for everything. I would definitely have been the one getting my dress taken up last minute and delaying everyone!

I loved the video of the Polonaise! It looks like fun! I loved folk dancing classes in school.

I kept a dream journal for many years while working with a Jungian psychologist who did dream analysis. If you struggle to recall your dreams, and want to, make it an intentional practice every morning to ask yourself what you dreamt and write it down immediately. The more you practice this intention, the more easily you will be able to recall your dreams.
