Manon Roland
Jean-Marie Roland's young wife, a writer: known as A Lady from Lyon, A Roman Lady, Queen Coco
Madame Jeanne-Marie ‘Manon’ Roland is an influential figure among the ‘Brissotins’ or ‘Girondins’. Manon and husband Jean-Marie Roland move from Lyon to Paris when the Revolution is underway, after Manon has begun building her reputation as a revolutionary thinker. Much her husband’s junior, Manon writes letters, articles and speeches under his name and wields significant influence over other politicians and journalists. Her influence expands when Roland becomes minister of the interior. Manon runs a popular political salon, on occasion visited by Maximilien Robespierre. She is an ally to Jean-Pierre Brissot and develops a close relationship with François-Léonard Buzot. She cannot abide Georges-Jacques Danton.
